The refrigerated body features innovative and practical design, complete with the reassurance of a fully approved and tested Mercedes-Benz package solution. Excellent reliability and low maintenance requirements are designed into the refrigeration equipment and condenser assembly, by the use of electrical operation rather than more conventional engine driven compressor methods. Instead of a conventional belt-driven refrigerant compressor in the engine compartment with high pressure refrigerant pipes to a roof mounted cooling unit, the Vito Refrigerated Van uses a Mercedes OEM high output alternator to provide electrical power to an integrated roof mounted cooling unit.
This offers an uncluttered engine bay with no retrofitted equipment in it, and removes the relatively high repair and maintenance costs associated with conventional designs. In place of vulnerable flexible hoses from engine bay to condenser unit, it utilises electrical cable to provide power to the roof mounted compact compressor and condenser. No engine drive belts, no flexible refrigerant hoses and fewer moving parts equal a more reliable solution. Scheduled maintenance requirements are exceptionally low (matching the base vehicle intervals), and the compact construction benefits of compressor and condenser being adjacent in the roof pod allow reliability to be assured.
Refrigeration performance is exceptional, as a result of the high capacity cooling unit allied with the innovative and efficient fully moulded body insulation. Unlike lower performance materials used in many refrigerated van conversions, the Vito Refrigerated Van uses high efficiency moulded insulation panels that closely follow the internal body panel contours. The benefit of this design technology is low thermal loss, ensuring that load space temperature is maintained more effectively and cooling equipment can operate well within design capability.
The roof mounted refrigeration cover is colour keyed white as standard, but can be colour coded to match alternative vehicle colours as an optional choice. |
